There are no half measures in acting ethically -- WW should assure its customers that ALL eggs used in its products are free range. I'd v much like to know the cost mark up -- I'll bet that WW could cut their profits on eggs and not lose much in terms of profits. Making money off the suffering of animals is unconscionable. C'mon Woolworths -- lead the way. I certainly will refuse to buy ANY products with egg in it. |
Forward to an ethical, and compassionate attitude from Woolworths and all retailers and suppliers of chickens and eggs. "No"! to battery fowl and eggs. We belive this is essential, do-able and sustainable and can only improve the Woolworths profile. Phambile, Woolies! |
This issue will not go away.Time for Woolworths as the leader in food retailing to set the standard for the industry. |
How disappointing that Woolworths continues to use battery eggs in their products despite their claims to be using only free range eggs. |
i would most certainly pay a price increase if i knew the product i was buying was produced in an ethical, sustainable, organic, or free range way |
I fully endorse this petition. As humans let's starting acting with humanity! |
So disappointed.......really thought woolworths would be the fore-runner and at least a bit more honest....perhaps they still can? |
This issue has less to do with numbers than it has to do with principles and ethics. If Woolworths is going to hold itself out to be ethical and all things good then it should be principled enough to clearly label those products that contain battery hen (and similarly offensive) products. Otherwise Woolworths is no better than any other retailer using 'organic', 'ethics', 'free range' etc as sales gimmicks to increase revenues. As a consumer in South Africa I am tired of being lied to and misled by profit churning businesses who have totally lost the concept of 'customer first'. Just words... Woolworths is well placed to deliver a holistic service to its customers right through to all products. Just do it! |
We trust you to ensure that the animals you utilise in the products we buy, enjoy quality of life and a humane end! |
i already only by your free-range lamb, chicken and beef. I am very happy to see easy to prepare free-range chicken dishes on your shelves. now if you could only stock products produced by ethical farmers and suppliers and only have free-range everything and more organic my shopping would be a dream. |
I cannot believe that Woolworths customers are NOT prepared to pay more for products that contain free-range eggs. If that is the case, we have no hope of making a difference to the way birds and animals are farmed. Where there is a will there is a way so stop with the pathetic excuses (both Woolworths and their clients) and let's make a determined effort to improve the lot of both the chickens and the consumers! |
Woolies pride themselves on being trend setters and not just following the pack, or flock in this case. Battery chicken farming is just cruel, anyone with half a brain can see that, why do woolworths need more justification than that? Be the good guys, you have the financial clout to make a difference by increasing the demand for free range eggs only. Just do it!!!!!! |
My family and I have a Zero Tolerance to any suffering - human or creation. If Woolworth's does not care - then we do not care for Woolworths! THOSE WHO ENRICH THEMSELVES AT THE EXPENSE OR WORSE YET SUFFERING OF OTHERS (HUMAN OR CREATION) ARE NOT THE PEOPLE / ORGANISATIONS THAT WE CHOOSE TO ASSOCIATE WITH!!! We had expected better from Woolies - This news comes as a dissapointment. SINCERLY YOURS, MR J.G. WILHELM |
Dear Sir/Madam I would really be glad if Woolworths can stop selling any chickens or eggs that are not free range. It is horrific to think that chickens have to suffer at the hands of humans simply to satisfy their greed. I would really like to support Woolworths but if this doesn't stop I won't be supporting them again. |
Woolworth's chicken pies are also made from battery chickens. I assumed that because all their fresh chicken as free range that their pies would be too....and I checked on numerous occasions with the serving lady that this was so and she assured me they were. When the story about the eggs broke, I decided to check this assumption out. And discovered that they are in fact battery chickens....had I known this I would never have bought woolworth's pies - this is a matter of principal to me. And what about the woolworth's carbon foot print? They refrigerate the whole store instead of just the food...not very environmentally friendly... |
Please stop all use of regular eggs in Woolworths products, and use only free-range eggs. |
Naive shoppers expect the government and the retailers to be ensuring the right thing is happening re the production of food. WAKE UP!! This is NOT happening and retailers TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. You buy the eggs from the suppliers. Dont try and pass the guilt on to the shoppers who are clueless as to exactly what goes on there. |
Come on Woolworths. You have the power to make a diffrence. Just make it. |
Dear Madam or Sir, "Woolies" is very special and dear (in more than one sense) to my wife and me for several reasons - one of which is your commitment to selling only free-range eggs! (Your organic range is another - your tendency to over-package is not) While I have sympathy for your stance that eggs as ingredients in foods are less visible and the customer might therefore not recognise, value and ultimately reward if they are also free-range, one might also look at your attitude as attempted "cheating". My suggestion: Move forward! Use only free-range eggs for all your products and market this actively! If there are people who don't care chances are they are not your customers anyway, or only occasionally. Besides the cost differences will not be that great, seeing that eggs are only one of several ingredients. Yours faithful and regular customer, Wolfgang Preiser 11A Sixth Avenue Boston Bellville 7530 South Africa Tel.: (0027) (0)21 945 2769 |
Battery egg farming is sheer abuse and abuse of any kind cannot be tolerated. The fact that there is an alternative - free range farming - makes battery egg farming even more inexcusable. The price of free-range will come down when demand goes up. But we have to create the demand - and that starts with our retailers choosing to stock and use only free-range eggs. I really want to believe that there are good people and good companies in this world - especially in South Africa because this is where I live and I love it. Good people and good companies are defined by their actions and the principles that they live and operate by. You need ask yourself only one question: Would I like to live like this? If your answer is NO, then as a company you have a moral obligation to do the right thing. And it's really not that difficult. Decide to stock and use only free-range eggs. |
Provide more info on how your produce is produced. Imporantly consider water use and carbon |
Woolwothths-where i specifically buy all my food, after driving 100kms to get to one of your foodstores-wake up and DO the right thing!! |
Double standards for sure. People who shop at Woolworths can definitly afford the few cents extra - its their conscience that needs awakening. |
The majority of WW shoppers aren't looking at prices, they are looking at quality in a market leader, so the argument that people don't want to pay more for a less cruel option doesn't gel. Please continue you good food / good business journey and do the right thing by your customers and by the birds! |
Woolworths cleaerly understands the issues associated with battery chickens or woud not use the advertising line about free range eggs that they do. There is therefore nto excuse for their use of battery eggs in theor products, nor for their sale of battery chickens. |
As a Woolworths customer I will not buy ANY of your products that contain eggs, knowing that they are battery farmed. I would definitely be prepared to pay more for free range eggs. Battery hens pay the price of cheap eggs with a life in hell. |
No more bettery eggs.......Free range means FREE |
Woolworths gets so much 'right' - take this a step further and be the first retailer that is actually believable in terms of the promises it makes. Your ethical stance needs to echo through all products that contain egg. |
I only support Woolworths when purchasing my foods, I always believed Woolies put the animals first and therefore I pay the extra for free range/organic products. I was shocked to discover Woolies has been using battery eggs in their food products. How can you advertise "free as a bird" on one end but do the exact opposite regarding the use of battery eggs. It makes me wonder about authenticity of the other free range/organic products you advertise, is it also a lie, the public doesn't know we put our trust in Woolworths, please don't let us down. Lead by example. |
Wake up - the cost of these will come down if you buy enough of them. People who shop at Wooolworths do not look at cost - do not kidd yourself!!!! Apart from all the above - be leaders and not followers!!!!!! |
I support this campaign. |
Ag nee man |
I haven't shopped at since discovering this subterfuge and "greenwashing" last year, and I have encouraged all my friends also to avoid supporting WW's unethical practices. I come from a FMCG and advertising background, so recognise this consumer manipulaiton when I see it! |
I would MUCH prefer if you used free range eggs for ALL your products. It is surprising and dissapointing to know that you in fact support the battery hen trade. |
Woolworths has done so much to change their product range for health and ethical reasons - please stop using battery chickens and eggs for prepared food. Thank you! |
Hi,I always buy my eggs at Woolworths as I commend Woolies for being pioneers in promotion free-range eggs only and buy their organic and free range produce for my baby and family. I did not think further about what goes into their products and would like to plea with Woolies to take their commitment one step further and commit to using free range eggs in all their products and the Cafe. Now would not not be something great! |
Ban Battery Eggs!!!! |
You are merely paying lip-service in your campaign regarding supprting the welfare of chickens. You have double standards and what you are doing is unethical in the extreme. Let's hope you can clean up this act! |
This is not a nice-to-have! Woolworths attempts (very poorly indeed) to portray an identity of social responsibility and yet covers up its continued animal cruelty through marketing?? For our society to progress morally we need to take responsibility for our actions as humans and ensure that we do away with practices supporting such intense cruelty and disregard for life's value. Please rethink all use of battery eggs - this is so clearly morally reprehensible. The idea that we still have to debate whether cruelty is acceptable shows your company in an extremely poor light and will gain you only very negative attention. |
I'd rather not eat eggs at all than eat eggs generated from inhumane egg farms. Do the right thing! |
Woolworths your double standards in this matter are disgraceful. |
I only buy free range eggs, and a retailer that can foresee the change that's coming in the market is a retailer who'll be around a long time. Woolworths would do well to take the lead for other retailers to follow. |
For each the little bit that they can do. To feel less helpless, this much we can do, try to do. Even if the fact that we mind might not save the world. Learning to mind, perhaps that is harder |
We simply must try to move towards a more humane (if that is the right word) way of treating the animals that we feed on. It's bad enough being slaughtered. Let's try and make their time on earth a little better. |
I would like to see more free range products on your shelves, and not only in your meats section but in your other products too. I only purchase products that are free range and as such am very limited in what I can purchase at your stores. Many people are catching onto the concept of ethical eating and I think Woolworths is in a good position to force suppliers to treat their live stock with humanity. Not only would this be a great step forward for relieving animal cruelty, it would also result in a great profit for Woolworths as there are very few stores that do have free-range products on their shelves and you would be ahead of the market. |
I do not and will not buy eggs or products that contain battery produced eggs. I continuously urge my collegues and friends to do the same. |
I have stopped buying ANY Woolworths value added products which contain egg, and many other products as well as I feel that Woolworths statements and promises can no longer be trusted. Making the committment to not use battery eggs in ANY woolworths product will go a long way to drawing customers like myself back to your stores. |
compassion means putting yourselves in the situation of the other and allowing yourself to feel their pain...come on Woolworths, try it and see if you can justify such cruelty... |
I would absolutely be willing to pay extra for ethically produced foor |
Please allow us to shop at Woolworths in the full confidence that NONE of your poultry products are anything but free range. |
PLEASE start using only free range eggs in all your products. I have said that i would not purchase any of your pre-made products and i haven't. I won't even buy biscuits if it has eggs in the ingredients list. |
I take my hat off to Woolworths for stepping in the right direction at least. It's more than we can say for the other retailers. But I have to agree with the fact that we shouldn't support ANY products where battery eggs are used. |
you can make a difference in fighting cruelty to animals |
I love the fact that Woolies has always been the leader in "doing good" for the world. Don't let your loyal customers down by misleading them and making excuses for your inconsistencies |
I have already stopped using Woolworths products that do not state that they are made with free range eggs. |
Misleading the public! I will not support your store until you stop using battery eggs. Whatever the cost!! Come on, live up to your motto. |
Do not use this opportunity of me signing the petition to send me spam about anything Woolworths is selling. |
Come on Woolies - be the leader and stock only truly free range eggs and use in all your food products |
Free range all the way!!! |
we will not buy if its not free range |
All talk, no action, right??? |
I think Woolworths are misleading peopel by saying that prices will have to go up if they use free-range eggs in their ready-made meals, what % of the content is egg anyway? they can spend less on advertising and more on actually practising what they preach. |
I WOULD and DO pay more for free range, but think that as a responsible corporate citizin, Woolworths should explore and invest in economically viable alternatives to battery farming. |
I couldnt agree more with this - it is a disgrace that they contine to sell products with battery eggs and chicken too. |
Come on Woolworths Im hearing stories that tell us that your advertising is not realistically portraying ethical and eco friendly practices. Not good for customer care and good business practices. Put your money where you mouth is and do what is right. |
The issue for Woolworths should not be about making more money by using free range items; the main objective of switching to free range products should be about making a difference and choosing to become a more compassionate store by opting for more humane methods of produce. Woolworths is a well established organisation and as such will not go bankrupt if it switches to free range products yet maintains the same prices as it did by serving/selling battery famed eggs. What Woolworth is insinuating by rejecting the choice of free range over battery farming is that this organisation is more interested in profit rather than doing the right thing. This is disappointing and I am quite frankly disgusted by Woolworths response. In the future I doubt I will offer support to this store by shopping in it. I would much rather spend my money at Pick & Pay because this store demonstrated integrity when it accommodated its customers by acknowledging its mistake to use battery farmed eggs and have instead opted to use free range eggs instead for its 'largest omlette' attempt. Here is a suggestion to Woolworths - take a page out of Pick & Pay's book and learn to accommodate ALL of your customers. Develop integrity and you will not lose loyal customers like myself who have always shopped at Woolworths regardless of this store being more pricey with its products. I would have thought that since Woolworths does not support vivisection and produces its own animal cruelty free cosmetic range, that this option to switch to free range would not be a problem. Apparently I was sadly mistaken. I always made sure to purchase my make up and cosmetics only from Woolworths but I will now stop purchasing from this store and instead switch to Bionike, Avon or the Mr Price make up products - all of which are cruelty free make up ranges. |
Customers are being lied to about the quality of woolworths products. woolworths only cares for the bottom line, & not animals or consumers.i won't support them if their word is not honoured. If they are pulling the wool over our eyes in this regard, i can imagine how many other "lies" are being told. |
Please ban battery eggs from all your products! |
ONE'S WORD IS ONE'S HONOUR - DO THE HONOURABLE THING... ANY PERSON WHO HAS SEEN A HEN-HOUSE WITH BATTERY HENS WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY BATTERY EGGS. |
I would definately pay more for products made with free range eggs. |
free range, organic and sustainable please |
I think it is a crying shame that Woolworths who profess to give consumers the best and healthiest of ingredients in their products, including organic where possible, cannot see their way to taking it a step further by showing compassion for hens. Consumers get accustomed to price increases quite quickly and if Woolworths creatd a demand for free range eggs the price of them would surely decrease. |
I had no idea Woolworths still used products with battery produced eggs. I'm quite horrified as I thought Woolworths really cared about this issue. I will definately not be purchasing any more products until you have changed to free-range eggs. I think your marketing campaign regarding your eggs is utterly misleading. |
I have always supported your organic initiative (and free range eggs), I am sticking to shops like the Ethical Co-Op who have more integrity! Very disappointed ... |
Do the right thing Woolies!!!! |
Don't just talk the talk to attract customers - have integrity & walk the walk also |
Please also stock organic milk, cream and butter in ALL your stores. Preferably in sufficient quantities, I often find these have run out in my local Woolworths, Waterstone Village. |
Please continue to try and set an example in South Africa as far as retailers go. Ethical and green are the way to go! |
There is no need for this barbaric practise to continue. Large retailers have the power to change farming methods with their buying power. |
I am so disappointed in Woolworths with regards the double standard portrayed.I will not be doing anymore shopping from Woolworths until they have actively done something to change their policy. I think it is high time that Woolworths also looked at their over packaging and started being actively concious about landfill as well. All fresh produce should be able to be bought in your stores unpacked in cardboard, plastic ect. Your packaging is an absolute over kill. If you addressed this part of your business as well as battery eggs you would make a HUGE DIFFERENCE TO PLANET EARTH. BARBARA PEERS CAPE TOWN. |
It would be great to know that all products used are Free Range. I know organic is pushing it as I saw that a tray of eggs was R49 this morning which is out of my budget (I have four kids who live on a tray of eggs every few days) - but I ONLY buy my eggs, milk and meat at Woolworths because of the perception that it is more 'animal-friendly'. It would be good to push the perception to your other products. |
Woolworths is taking the ethical high-ground in terms of their marketing strategy where they state: "We think our hens enjoy having space to behave like they should." I think Woolworths should start behaving like its "caring" campaign and sell only free-range eggs in all it's products. |
Its about time that this issue is taken seriously by a retailer that makes many CLAIMS about being green and supporting these issues. |
I will only every buy free-range eggs. |
I am so upset that woolworths does not use free range eggs in their products i always thought they did because of the image they had set up for themselves |
I shop at WW foodstore ALL the time but never thought about this and I only ever eat and buy free range eggs and chicken. Plse consider changing this in your ready made meals etc. |
From the Hindu scriptures: "The purchaser of flesh performs himsa (violence) by his wealth; he who eats flesh does so by enjoying its taste; the killer does himsa by actually tying and killing the animal. Thus, there are three forms of killing. He who brings flesh or sends for it, he who cuts of the limbs of an animal, and he who purchases, sells, or cooks flesh and eats it-all of these are to be considered meat-eaters." (Mahabharata, Anu. 115:40) |
I only buy Woolworths free range eggs, but was surprised to hear that Woolworths don't use the same in their ready made biscuits, foods etc. Double standards, Woolworths...... |
I am becoming increasingly disgusted with the way woolworths is abusing their "green credentials" and sneaking in all sorts of things - like non free range eggs - under the radar. |
So if people are prepared to pay for cruelty, you support cruelty? Shame on you, Woolworths. |
I would expect nothing less from a retailer like Woolworths! |
Lets fight to stop all forms of cruelty to animals. If we don't speak for them, who will. |
I purchase your free range eggs and buy 90% of my groceries etc from Woolworths. I strongly suggest that Woolworths use free range eggs in all their fresh and frozen foods as soon as possible. |
please continue to strive at maintaining the high ideals that I've come to associate with your brand. Organic, sustainable, ethical and free range are the ways of the future. The sooner we start that future, the closer we come to making this world a safer, healthier and happier place for our children. You can't put a price on that. |
Please only use free-range eggs in ALL your food products!!!! |
And we call ourselves civilized! |
As A long-time and loyal Woolworths customer I already buy free range eggs and chickens but would prefer that all products using these ingredients were sourced from free range farms |
We appreciate the progress that Woolworths has made for animal welfare by only selling free-range eggs in cartons. However, this issue will not have been solved until ALL eggs used in production of food at Woolworths are cage-free. Please stop supporting this cruel practice! |
This must be stopped! |
It will cost you to exercise your leaverage to better the humanity of your suppliers. Then, eventually we will pay for it as customers.... gladly. You are a premium brand that capitalizes on and panders to the green/altruistic aspirations of your customers (right or wrong) extend that to all your produce and producers, or when your customers find out the contradictions in your supply chain, ..... you will kak. In a way I'm ambivalent about omnivores and their illogical sense of morality, but you guys have made the little bed that you have to sleep in. You make green claims for profit and there are cost attached to that..... you are the good guys. Don't get caught selling the same eggs as everyone else |
Please Woolworths, please stop using battery eggs! Be a leader! |
My neighbours farm battery eggs and those chickens live a horrid life. It is not an abstract concept to me, but real chickens I ride past every day. |
Stand against the lies, get what you pay for and what is promised. When I go to Woolworths I expect to get what I go there for, especially at the ridiculous prices. Not only is there cruelty towards animals involved in all this but what else are companies hiding from the public? |
if its not freerange its not acceptable! |
Hi I am really committed to ethical treatment of animals and I do choose Woolworths first for my purchases because of your commitment to ethics. Please go the extra mile. -- Vegetarian Dave |
Give us the choice to buy ethical food. Be the pioneers of change - it's worth every cent in the long run! |
Please consider balancing your profit margin with compassionate farming methods. And please try to increase your choices for vegetarian options in your stores. Thanks. |
Come on Woollies, we support you 100% now it's your turn. |
Money! Money! Money! |
The sooner this gross and barbaric act is stopped - the better! |
come on Woolies! show the leadership we expect from you! |
Drive harder to root out cruel practices! |
Let hens live a natural life - stock only free-range eggs |
I have been so impressed with Woolworths over the years and have every confidence in you people getting this right as you're the best of the bunch in this department and I know you're not going to let us down. Please introduce free range eggs in ALL your products. Thanks guys. |
Some of us actually care about what we eat. If you dont supply what my conscience can not stomach, I'll find it elsewhere or go without it. Show the same conviction. |
It's discusting and frankly disturbing. |
Nothing would make me buy anything other than certified free-range eggs, or buy any processed foods containing other than free-range eggs. Please help stop perpetuating the shameful cruelty of all intensive chicken and egg production. |
If the cost of any of your products had to rise because of using free range eggs. That would be fine with me. Rather pay a bit more than conciously eat something that was raised with cruelty! |
Please switch to using only free range eggs in all your foods |
There is no need for this barbaric practice aynway but please don't support it by selling one thing and using another. Such hyprocisy does not become Woolworths. |
We won't stop until you drop your double standards! I've been a loyal customer fooled by your signs, shame on you Woolworths, shame on you until you step up to the plate |
Free range means just that....FREE and the ability to range. Forcefed and battery bred food is not ethical or acceptable. This becomes even more relevant with a company that says its prides itself on organic and high quality food. |
Stop participating in the torture and misery of all battery hens not just the egg-laying ones. Show some compassion and set an example. We are relying on Woolworths to take the lead in this & will not buy from you until you rectify this situation. We know you have the power to do this. Stop patronising us with misleading advertising not because we feel affronted but because through such advertising you demonstrate a total disregard for the intense suffering of the hens. |
If you do not have free range organic products on your shelves,I will never shop at your store again, and I will tell all my friends not to. |
I am deeply disturbed by the callous attitude displayed by Woolworths. On the one hand they proclaim to care about the conditions under which battery hens are kept, yet the decision as to whether to use battery eggs for all other products rests solely on economic self-interest. These double standards expose their earlier 'concern' as no more than a marketing strategy. |
As a great Woolworths customer my voice matters. Please stop the inhumane practice of battery chickens and eggs. Erika |
If I knew the eggs used in Woolies products were battery eggs I would not have bought items in the past and will not in the future until this is resolved... come on Woolies put your money where your mouth is! |
I would DEFINITELY choose a meal made with free range eggs over one using battery; even if there is a price difference. |
I am the owner of 8 chickens and have realised how intelligent they are and in actual fact make wonderful pets. We need to look at the fact that if they are these intelligent creatures and understand more than we think, then how can we close them up in tiny spaces. We wouldn't do it to our dogs and cats or other pets for that matter. |
I feel tricked by Woolworths. They are seriously misleading the public! |
It's nonsense that Woolworths charge so much money for their stuff under false pretenses. Should not be allowed. |
Time to put your money where your mouth is. |
There should be no option anymore for living in an irresponsible and unsustainable way. The world is dying, its time to wake up. |
Stop all use of battery eggs please |
You are about to lose an enormous number of shoppers! One of the main reasons that I have been constantly shopping at your store was because of the commitment you made, your organic products and the fact that I thought you had a moral conscience. As one of the leading retailers in the country, you of all outlets, should be setting an example. Shame on you!!!! |
that's total bollocks woolies - I pay the extra money with a smile!! why do we buy from woolies in the first place anyway? because we expect better! be ethical, make us proud to support you above other retailers!! |
Put organic eggs in your products not only in cardboard boxes. You have organic stickers, logos and ads all over your produce and store, VERY MISLEADING - why withhold your ingredient source from the consumer regarding what you make and bake for them ...give the consumer the right to decide if they want to be part of this cruel battery egg enterprise you support. |
Free those chickens!! |
Free the Chickens! |
Woolworths should be upfront about this, it is rather deceiptive. |
Wake up! |
Is cruelty the only way to make a profit.........please free the birds they would love to stretch their legs flap their wings and do all the things we take for granted. |
I enjoy the fact the whole foods, organic foods and free range food are available at woolworths, however do not buy the pre-packaged foods due to the use of non organic or free range additives. I do feel for the chickens but to be honest my main concern is for my own health and I don't want to be consuming food producing under such disgusting conditions... Also wish woolies would cut down on packaging |
Come on Guys, you know its the right thing to do |
All Woolworths produce should be entirely ethical. There's a market out there. Show the way. |
Thank you very much for being the only place in this country I trust to buy my food at. You never fail to dissapoint. If it wasn't for your Organic Soy Milk then I don't know what I would do (all other brands taste like cardboard). Please use free range eggs in all your food. You will continue to make me proud :) Lima |
For the fast amount of money I spend (also my family and friends) the least that I would have expected would have been honesty and a CHOICE! I am dissapointed!!!and frustarted at these double standards....no happy. |
Battery chicken farming is cruel. Thank you for offering me a vote in the matter. I have been on about this for a while now. Good luck with this endevour. Free the chickens!!!! |
free the birds! |
I will buy only FREE RANGE EGGS. I will only eat FREE RANGE EGGS & CHICKENS. |
Please use free range eggs in your food. Do not mislead the public. Transparency & honesty is the way for the future. Do not disappoint your loyal customers. |
I wish to support a animal cruelty free world! |
As such a forward-thinking company, which has already outlawed battery eggs, please take things that one ethical step further and ban battery eggs in all your food products. Your thinking consumers will support you. Any company that can say no to cruelty will be supported by an ever-increasing public that demands this awareness. Thank you for what you have already done. |
Put your money where your mouth is. You cannot continue to make animal abuse a commercial issue. It is a moral issue! If people can't afford the cost of convenience food from your store, they can make an alternate choice. Animals shouldn't be made to suffer for your customers' convenience or money savings. |
I for one am prepared to pay a little more for meals prepared with free range eggs...the extra cost should be minimal as free range eggs really do not cost much more than battery eggs, and they are normally only a very small part of a meal. It would not cost very much more to for example bake a quiche with free range eggs . |
If they lie to us about the eggs, what else do they hide from us? |
I had always made a special point of buying things from Woolworths BECAUSE I believed I could trust that they were ethically produced - it's really disappointing to hear that this is not the case - does it always have to be about money??? |
PLEASE WOOLWORTHS AS A CUSTOMER I AM PLEADING WITH YOU TO ONLY BUY FREE RANGE. Chickens are wonderful small creatures with many extraordinary abilities- for example, research has shown they can anticipate the future. They are God's creatures and are sentient beings. They feel pain, discomfort and suffering. HELP THEM TO LIVE DECENT LIVES AS THEY SERVE HUMANKIND WITH THEIR EGGS AND MEAT. |
This is utterly disgraceful |
It is time we make a stand for what is right and ethical and time that business do the right thing. |
If you are serious about animal welfare, be consistent. Keep battery eggs out of your products. |
It is quite simple walk your talk ... |
Window dressing doesn't cut it neither does false advertising. We were are proud to be Woolworths customers when woolworths advertised that only free range eggs would be sold. We felt used and abused when the truth became know about the eggs used in the prepared meals. If Woolworths can not make the decision on ethical grounds do it on business grounds - loosing my business and thousands others like me. |
I never buy battery eggs and have recently started asking more about ingredients and where they come from. I have two teenagers in the home and they refuse to eat battery chicken or non free range eggs. I am very proud of the awareness shown by my children and their friends. |
I have been a customer of Woolworths for more than 2 decades! I love Woolworths and the effort they are putting into Organic and Free Range products. But I also agree that Woolworths should be making a bigger effort to move towards using only free range eggs in their bakeries and ready to eat meals. I think that Woolworths is in the perfect position to set an example for other retail giants in SA and all over the world to follow suite with using only free range eggs in all prepared foods. So come one Woolies, pave the way to a better future of free range foods! |
It is very unhealthy state, and cruel. These eggs cannot be beneficial to one's health. |
It is very unhealthy state, and cruel. These eggs cannot be beneficial to one's health. |
It is our duty as thinking people to stop buying anything other than free range eggs. |
we never ever buy any eggs (or chicken) that aren't marked 'free range' and I am most dissapointed that Woolies seems to be only paying lip service to this ideal. Until I hear otherwise, we will no longer buy any pre-prepared stuff from Woolworths. |
the 7000 consumers were wrong! |
I am digusted that WW would make such a statement and then use the opposite in their foods - that is false advertising and unethical. |
I will ONLY buy free range eggs! and that goes for my whole family too. Please go cruelty free Woolworths and sell only free range eggs? Your shop is an example to everyone else as you sell cruelty free products, I buy all my household cleaning products from you. Please go all the way and only sell free range eggs! From a passionate animal lover. |
Let this be your guide - as Ghandi said: the state of a nation can be measured in how it treats its animals. By making items stemming from this immense cruelty available in your stores, what does that say about you? |
I am so disappointed in Woolworths and will now try and buy the products mentioned on this website at other retailers or, even better, from small, local producers who use free range eggs. |
I was shopping in your Broadacres stores on Thursday the 8th October and in the egg section you only had free range which made me very excited. I approached your Manager and shook his hand and said keep up the good work. People spend a fortune on clothes, shoes etc why not a little extra for eggs ? Maybe you should display the awful pictures of the Battery Hens life. Thank you Woolworths. |
Woolworths please use free range eggs & NOT battery eggs in your products, all chickens need to live a cruelty free life not just a few! HAVE A HEART WOOLWORTHS OR LOSE YOUR LOYAL CUSTOMERS!!! |
I am vewry happy that Woolworths has taken a stand. A bit extra money to have the animals in a better state, yeah. |
Might does not make right. Chickens are fellow living inhabitants of this overcrowded planet. |
Use only free range eggs in all your products. |
Please stop stocking any chickens or eggs that are not Free Range |
Another thing woolworths needs to look at is the amount of plastic used in their packaging. FAR more than in any other supermarket chain. EVERYTHING is covered in plastic more than once - including the poor non-free range chickens. |
free range only please! |
YOU PEOPLE ARE A DISGRACE!!! |
let the powers that be sit in those cages for the time the chickens do it is barbaric. |
It's called greenwashing, and it's going to do plenty more damage to your sales and already compromised image - unless you actually listen to these requests and fulfil your promises. Chicken and egg - word and bond ? |
I'm 100% pro organic farming and 100% against battery. It's time we moved forward from barbarism. |
Woolworths has taken the first step in being a leader in the change towards ethical farming and food. BUT now they need to follow through, not just at face value by selling free range eggs but by insisting their food producers use free range too. |
You need to do someting extraordinary. |
Let's try to do things the most humanly for all. keeping laying hens in cages is disgusting - they should roam free !!!! |
I only shop at Woolworths for chicken, meat, eggs, milk etc due to my perception that they have strict animal rights measures in place and are moving towards a more sustainable way of producing products. I love their new organic ranges! I am shocked to hear that Woolworths does not use free range eggs in their products! I only eat free range/organic eggs and find this almost repulsive! Please Woolworths take a stand and continue to be the company the South African respect. |
I am becoming more and more disillusioned with Woolworths. There was a time when the company was held in high regard but this is changing fast! Get your act together! |
The poultry industry and retailers need to get their act together to abolish these conditions. |
Come on woolworths, this is the least you can do in the interess of animal decency!! |
Full disclosure please! Do not use battery eggs and say you aren't. |
I was a daily woolworths shopper please stop using battery eggs in your products as I have been forced to shop elsewhere. |
In todays world with so much advancement in technology surely this disguting way of farming should be over and stopped with immediate effect. It is disgusting inhumane and so very very cruel. Imagine if you were one of those chickens????? |
In addition to the battery eggs , no other shop has as much non bio degradeable packaging as Woolworths. The import of Israeli tomatoes also has to stop for humanitarian and environmental reasons. My Woolworths card number is 6007852803845415 You will notice that my purchases have declined recently , due to you ignoring my comment re the Israeli tomatoes and your excessive packaging , whilst bragging about your green credentials. |
If we can get rid of the disgraceful practice of battery chicken farming, we will have made a huge dent in this industry worldwide. Please try to accomplish this! |
I have always believed that Woolworths is the retailer with a conscience. What happened?!? |
WW has deliberately misled its customers and needs to make amends asap. Their advertising is full of the ethical, organic, responsible ways of production - well put your money where your mouth is WW. Your conduct comes as such a disappointment to your (many!) fans. |
Please Woolworths, the ONLY compassionate way as free-range in EVERYTHING. |
I am a loyal Woolworths customer & the bad publicity surrounding the battery egg debate has reached me via the electronic airwaves. Woolworths is known to be socially responsible & it would really set a precedent if they agree to use free range eggs only in their ready-to-eat meals - I can't think of any other more progressive thinking retail chain that would take up this challenge. It would be great if their food items could carry a small logo indicating that only free range eggs have been used in the making of a particular product. Alternatively, our household will just start shopping with the smaller suppliers who do actually make an effort to supply cruelty free products. Just goes to show how powerful the internet has become! |
I only ever have, and only ever will, buy Free Range eggs. I have been loyal to Woolworths (ONLY because of Woolworths support of the free range egg industry) and will not support Woolworths now, you have been misleading, deliberately so. It seems Woolworths is the same as all the others, not really interested in animal welfare are you?! Disgusting. You will not see my shoes grace your floors ever again. And I will spread the word far and wide. Boy am I glad that I will not be in YOUR shoes on judgement day. |
In modern society we act like barbarians ... this cruelty has to stop ..... Woolies I wont shop in your stores anymore if you dont make an effort to adjust your conscience and stop being only focused on your already blossoming bottom line. If you make changes, you will have increased support, your bottom line will take care of itself. |
I will think twice before trusting your adverts again!!! This kind of false advertising and eye vailing just shows how little respect you have for your customers. I am just so dissapointed!!!! |
It is our duty as human beings purportedly caretaking the earths' animals to treat them humanely and fairly and a simple thing such as ONLY buying free range eggs is such a small price to pay in comparison to the torture these creatures are put through in battery cages! |
Please stop using eggs from battery hens in your products. This is aiding and abetting the torture of these poor chickens. Woolworths customers do not buy on price - otherwise they would by from Checkers, so to use price as an excuse to stock battery laid eggs is nonsensical. |
I don't believe that anyone who cares about our environment would ever say that they were not prepared to pay a bit more for products if it meant there was no cruelty involved!!! |
As a vegan, i don't think we should be supporting any animal trade whatsoever, but for those out there who haven't made that coonection yet, free range should be really free range! i would hope that a big company like woolworhts would understand and make the necessary jump (cost should not even come in to it) and go free range! |
STOP USING BATTERY EGGS IN YOUR PRE-MADE FOOD. YOUR COMPANY IS CONTRADICTING ITSELF BY ONLY SELLING FREE RANGE EGGS IN YOUR STORES BUT USING BATTERY EGSS 'BEHIND THE SCENES' BATTERY EGG FARMING IS BARBARIC !! |
Not only should woolworths ensure that they sell free range eggs but they should ensure that they use the same free range eggs in their products. Put your money where your mouth is. |
With the high stress levels of the chickens, the eggs are even more unhealthy. The chickens will also most probably die of cancer if left to live a bit longer, due to the high stress levels. |
please provide your customers with real choices to eat well. i would gladly pay the real costs for my food. i do not want cheap food that has so many hidden costs for the planet and its people. |
I only buy free range eggs and will pay more for them. If they are not available, I will NOT buy eggs!! |
Please, do the right ethical thing and only sell free range. I only buy free range and will go without if I cannot get it! |
Expect more from Woolworths! |
Does this abuse still happen??? What kind of people allow this??? AND THEN BUY FROM THEM! SHAME ON YOU! |
great news - can't you push it even more and only sell organic eggs? we don't want the hormones and antibiotics either... |
Stop battery hens ASAP for Wendy Hardie’s meeting with Woolworths Head of Foods and give her the ammo she needs to get them to change from this barbaric farming method. |
Battery cages can't be banned soon enough. I won't buy eggs. |
Caged chickens are a disgusting way of getting eggs |
Hypocrites |
Please use only free range eggs in all your food products. I will be prepared to pay more for such products |
Just let the birds lay their eggs naturally the way that God made them. |
Show some integrity! |
For goodness sake Woolworths, try and maintaiun some integrity towards more than just your financial shareholders. Where's your morality beyond your marketing campaign? Graham Alexander Psychologist |
I will ONLY buy free range eggs! Please do the right thing. |
If eggs from happy hens are pushing the prices up too much and most consumers aren't prepared or able to purchase the products anymore the recipes need to be changed. I have rehabilitated some battery hens and it really is a shame what we subject animals to in order to feed us(some of these hens couldn't even walk!). Free range/organic produce should not be the exception but the norm. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Kind Regards Saskia |
I salute Woolworths for being a leader in ethical/organic/sustainable foods, but would urge it to go the whole distance and only sell products made with free range eggs. Regards Des |
We want to eat healthy food at affordable prices and that includs free range chickens and eggsPLEASE |
I really don't think Woolworths actually cares about anything but making money...not enough wheat free products either...go leanr from the kiwis and aussies...where Woolworths doesn't rank highly at all... |
I really don't think Woolworths actually cares about anything but making money...not enough wheat free products either...go leanr from the kiwis and aussies...where Woolworths doesn't rank highly at all... |
These hens produce food for us and are sentient beings and yet we treat them like criminals in barbaric conditions - its got to end and Woolworths can be part of that. |
You need to be consistent... |
Eveyone should be aware of where their food comes from and realise that organic is the way to go. Unfortunately organic products are so expensive and therefore this limits who can purchase them. If more of us support this initiative, this surely should bring costs down... Consumers should dictate the market, not the other way around. |
Please use free range eggs and do not support battery eggs! |
How low can Woolworths sink, making promises they don't keep. Where did they do their survey of 7000 people and how was it worded? |
This is not worthy of you, Woolworths. It is important to us we can trust you. If we can't trust you on this, what else can't we trust you on? If we can't trust you we might as well shop at Pick & Pay |
Don't be hypocritical! Use free range eggs in all products and do not condone battery produced eggs. Consumers have the right to know what they are buying and then to make the choice. If eggs used in some products are not free range - this should be stated clearly. |
U now shes rite!!! |
There are too many stores that still don't have frre range chickens. Get your act ogether regarding the eggs!!! |
Please do not sell battery eggs in any way. This is an unacceptable way of producing food. It is beneath Woolworths to support such practices. |
we call ourselves humans, well when i read artcles like this it makes me realise how inhumane we are!!!!! |
Lead the way in SA and banish battery hens. |
Suggest that in the interests of a humaine approach to your products you only use free range eggs. |
Very dissapointing. I hate hypocritical, two faced liars who only care about money. You can be sure my friends, family and I wont shop at your store anymore |
It is outrageous! |
I would be prepared to pay even DOUBLE for eggs and dairy that are guaranteed to be from farmers that comply with the highest international standards of ethical animal care. |
PLEASE!! |
Our bodies become ill under prolonged stress.. Any food produced under artificial or stressful circumstances cannot be good to ingest.. Lets stop this negative, materialistic way of life and revert to the balance that nature requires. Woolworths markets itself as being a conscientious and responsible supplier of quality foods - put your money where your mouth is... |
PLEASE switch to free range eggs in ALL your foods! |
Live up to your social responsibilities please! |
DONT TAKE THE CONSUMER FOR A RIDE!! |
I am a huge Woolworths fan and hope that they will change their policy. I cant even get regular roasted free range chicken in my store, despite sending a request to head office. The staff at the Honeydew store say "we only get 2 crates a week and its so popular it sells out". so I cant purchase any convenience food at my store... |
Based on your new 'Green Philosophy' there is now a moral obligation for you to put your money where your mouth is. |
For shame. |
Please stop supporting an industry which takes its profits from animal exploitation. |
I commend Woolworths for being a pioneer in so many ways wrt ethical farming methods; I will support them all the way if they use free-range eggs in all their product. |
I had always considered Woolworths an ''eco-friendly'' store (as far as it is possible for supermarkets to be eco-friendly) but clearly not!! Woolworths needs to walk their talk and be seen to lead by example - using batttery eggs in their own food ranges makes a mockery of everything they profess to be. Hugely disappointing and a big fat raspberry to them - they have done major damage to their reputation. People are becoming more and more aware of unethical farming practices and battery farming has to be one of the worst. |
I have always only bought my groceriesfrom Woolworths as you have a free range, hormone-free & anti-cruelty policy. I'm very disappointed that you don't use free range eggs in you baked / cooked products. This makes me think twice about buying from your stores again. |
we are all accountable for the future of the planet!! |
I think it's despicable that free range can be promoted but not upheld. I think it's time large corporations took responsibility for their actions and practice what they preach. |
I would definitely pay MORE for produce that is ethical and humane. Wolworths and other companies who claim they are "free range" are lying. Free range is a load of hogwash - trust me i know, i've been to a factory farm were two out of the ten warehouses are "Free Range" qualifying the whole plant to get Free Range accreditation. A disappointed customer. Amy Stewart |
Well silly me - I thought Woollies ALREADY put free range poultry products into their goods. I will most certainly NOT buy any more products with battery chickens in them, so NO MORE chicken burgers, wraps, pastas or soups in MY trolley. I was duped! |
There is no room for factory farming on our planet - it destroys the environment, it destroys our humanity and it's devestatingly cruel to the caged animals being 'farmed' for our consumption. Woolworths must continue to lead the way in stopping this horrific trade. |
Absolutely disgusting. Will never buy your eggs again. |
I think that Woolworth has got an obligation towards us as customers to only sell free range eggs in all their producs. I feel that by using ordinary eggs in all producs woolworth is riding on a false marketing ploy of freerange eggs. I was horrified as a customer to find out that Freerange eggs was NOT in use in general products sold by woolworth. I feel cheated! |
I feel that woolwoth has got an obligation to make sure that only freerange eggs are used in all products sold by woolwoth. If not... Why should I continue to purchase food at woolies when it is no better than shoprite or picken pay wich are considerabel cheaper. I will considre changing to P&P opr shoprire should Woolworth not take our concerns seriously enough to change according to customer demands and to fall in line with their own markeing!!!!!!!!!! |
I am willing to pay a bit extra to have happy hens! |
This is shocking! to say the least!! I will most defnitely not buy any of these products from woolworths again!! And I am a regular customer of woolworths in Ballito. Pressure must be put on them to only use free range eggs in all their products!! |
Woolworths should be the leaders in this type of thing. How can other supermarkets be expected to change if Woolworths lies about their changes? |
This is shocking news! I will defnitely not buy any of these products from Woolworths again. They must sort it out!!! |
Reasons don't matter. That's some seriously dodgy advertising. |
Totally disappointed that Woolworths say one thing and then do another - such as sell Free range but use Battery eggs in their food production. Where is the quality in that?? |
I only buy whole foods from WW since I became aware that you use battery hen eggs in your processed foods. Please put your money where your mouth is and be consistent in your claims to be an ethical leader animal welfare in sa. kind regards kirstin |
I always eggs from you because they are free range. I just assumed that you used free range eggs in everything. Imagine how disappointed I am to find out that free range is only for show. |
not acceptable ! |
What else does Woolworths hide from the public? |
Woolworths should know better! |
The Woolworths Brand carries a HUGE responsibility, and is relied upon to be trustworthy, ethical and integrous. I'm sure you'll do the right thing. |
Please start catering for vegaterians with products like Frys... We should be encouraging people to become more aware and environmentally friendly. |
Woolworths, please show compassion to these animals and insist on your suppliers and your own brand using free range eggs. You have the clout to lead the way and show other retailers that animals matter and consumers choice matter. |
stop using battery eggs in all your products, sell only free range chicken & stop using so much packaging, make it an option for people to weigh their fresh produce & provide their own container |
I am amazed and disappointed at the underhandedness of Woolworths stores in this regard. I will never be able to trust Woolworths again. I was always under the impression that food from Woolworths was of the highest quality and 'safe' to eat. I will now have to think twice before buying from them again. |
I thought Woolworths were trustworthy but its seems they are not! |
It is time to show genuine progress in the way food is produced. Free range eggs is not just a marketing strategy. It is shameful that the good name of woolworths has allowed itself to be tarnished by the hypocracy demonstrated in deviously misleading the public into believing that your policies have animal welfare at heart. The public needs to be guided and educated how to make choices when it comes to the origin of food particularly that of animal origin. Woolworths needs show that they care, not just be seen to show that they care about important attitudes and respect towards life. |
Free range - a kinder alternative, a happier chicken. |
Stop using battery chickens and eggs! |
I have no words. Sadly. |
Quite a disgrace. First the kosher yoghurts had gelatine in them, now this. Woolworths needs to pull its act together. |
Dont be deceitful! |
Being a vegan I do not eat eggs or the chickens that lay them. I believe the world would be a better place if everyone followed suit...but the banning of battery hens is definitely a step in the right direction. |
C'mon, guys, make your free range and organic more than just a premium brand for you. Make it a true in-house philosophy. |
The practice of keeping battery hens is cruel. Please stop it. |
I do not approve of keeping laying hens in cages. They should be free ranged, and be reared an close to natural as possible. Good food, minimum additives in their diets, access to sunshine & soil to scratch in. |
Equality for ALL animals is needed! |
In such a forward-thinking society we live in, is it still necessary to carry on with such backward moneymaking practices? |
Take the gap in your marketing commitments at your peril |
What are you doing to the male chicks???? Or the people that your are buying from, do you know, do you care? |
My whole family fully supports this cause and we only ever purchase free range eggs. Come on Woollies, do the right thing! |
I am an avid Woolworths supporter and buy all my groceries exclusively from Woolie's. I appreciate the fact that you sell organic produce and free range eggs; however, I am bitterly disappointed to learn that you use battery eggs in all your prepared produce. This does not align with the image that you portray and the reputation that you have built up. I do not want to buy prepared products made with battery eggs. |
I am very dissapointed with this sanctimonious advertising, whether intentional or not. i hope there are no other areas of woolworths marketing that are misleading. i will be more sceptical about woolworths products from now on. |
There should only be free range |
I have my own chickens and don't buy eggs from anyone if I have not proof that the chickens laying the eggs have a good life - one that all animals are entitled to. Human beings are far too concerned with themselves - what about animals that cannot speak for themselves? |
All eggs to be free range |
Double standards if you advertise one thing and then on the other hand do the opposite. I really can't imagine not buying Woolies food but if it comes to that then I will make other plans! |
Need to find a more human way to source eggs, treat chickens and allow for informal settlements to make a living.... |
to seem like your the organic group whilst you do not,is very cheap an d decietful of you. |
I would support Woolworths more if this was the case and they did away with battery eggs in all their items. please LISTEN to us, we are growing in numbers. |
Free range eggs only in all your products |
There should not even be a debate regarding free range foodstuffs - its the way to go - now start on recycling your packaging |
You cannot claim to have any ethical animal treatment policy in place in your business while you allow the worst form of inhumane treatment to animals to continue - that of battery chickens. Ban it and start to regain your conscience and respect from your customers. |
Dear Woolworths My trust in your stores had been substantially eroded since I realised that much of what you say about ethical living and shopping is actually greenwash. Please make the switch to ethically sourced food in all its forms, and in particular, ban the use of battery eggs IN EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR PRODUCTS, so that people like me can feel that it is safe to shop in your stores once again. |
Please do this for our earth, for our pathetic little creatures no matter how small and seemingly insignificant. They too have feelings. They too have their dignity, believe it or not. |
Both my wife and I are keen Woollies supporters, or should I say WERE! We WILL NOT support Woollies any longer if this is the way they react on the absolute disgusting way animals are treated, and we will spread the word to family and friends that I know feels the same. So Woolies...the ball is in your court! |
For years I have only bought free-range eggs, as I am horrified by the conditions that battery hens are forced to live in. Please support us in this campaign as we are proud of all of Woolworth's other efforts to reduce animal suffering. This is the next logical and responsible step for Woolworths to take to keep loyal customers such as myself. With thanks. |
Come on Woolies - get with it! |
Iam very disappointed in woolworths attitude and lack of regard for our planet... |
Now the truth about Woolworths is being exposed - who can you trust these days -- so now they will fallinto that bracket as well |
OMG, what next... |
Free range is compassionate, more tasty and I will support Woolies EVEN more if you commit to being the leaders in progressive thinking and responsible business practise |
I am a loyal shopper at Woolies and have spent thousands there just this year. If you think for one second your consumers are not conscious of the cruelty you perpetuate, you are gravely mistaken. I will no longer buy a thing at Woolworths, opting for PNP products instead. I may be one on my own, but I control my wallet and Woolworths will no longer benefit from my pocket. |
How can businesses be part of such crualty? How can we eet any egg if we know this is happening. Read before you buy, not only at Woolworths and boikot all. |
Please switch to using only free range eggs in all your foods |
With-holding information is as good as lying, and you know it! |
I buy from WW because you SAY that you are committed to producing ethical food. Using battery eggs in pre-made goods is cruel and definitely not in keeping with your commitments. |
I support free range for all animals. |
So cruel.......this practice needs to be stopped!! |
do it! |
I will only buy free range eggs at all times. Away with cruelty please. |
I emailed Woolworths at the begining of the year to find out whether the eggs in convenience foods were free range, when i found out that they were battery eggs i was horrified. IT IS DISGUSTING!!!! I have lost serious faith in Woolworths, they claim to be a lot of things but at the end of the day it is just marketing hype. At least Pick n Pay doesn't lie to us. I have been boycotting all eggs products at Woolworths since the begining of the year, and as i am vegetarian this seriously impacts on the amount of food i buy from them. I try to go to deli's and support smaller stores now, Pick n Pay is making serious improvements and I am shopping there more and more. To Woolworths - don't think that you can lie to your customers and get away with it, it might take us a little while, but we will eventually get organised and take our business somewhere else. I am totally disgusted to think of the battery eggs in the woolworths food. |
stop hiding behind your marketing and do the right thing and not use battery hens, you should be ashamed of yourselves... |
False advertising! And disgusting that they are selling battery eggs and chickens. Disgusting! |
Quite simply, we all know it's not right. |
Free as a bird....yeah right! |
No more battery chickens!! |
Total unacceptable!!! The fine print always lies. Stop maltreating animals. |
No more shopping at Woolworths for me AND I shop there every day! Get your act together, Woolies. You're guilty of false advertising and misleading the public with your 'good, clean, wholesome' image! |
Do the right thing and your customers and shareholders will support you. |
Be leaders and don't do it half way. I was disappointed in your display of weakness in the face of profit and convenience - get it right and you'll gain more loyalty Naulene Evans (mother of 2)somerset west |
Just pac it in guys. Your food is expensive enough to provide these chicken with a bit of freedom. And I don't even eat chicken, so I have nothing to gain. |
I am absolutley disgusted with Woolworths, they lied to us all for the sake of money, what else are they hiding from us. I vow NEVER to put my foot in a Woolworths again as far as the clothes go I am sure they also come from sweat shops!!! FALSE ADVERTISING is a criminal offence!!!! |
This is abuse of the Customer - I am speechless at the response from the Food Rep! |
Get with the programme! Practice what you preach. Be the market leader you have become know as! |
I hate the feeling of being Duped! |
It is completely outrages. Though it was the best.. turns out it was only good packaging. |
Stop being hypocritical. |
I actually couldnt believe this - really disappointed... |
NO TO BATTERY EGGS!!!! |
Hell begins the day God grants you the vision to see all that you could have done, should have done and would have done, but did not do... |
Please switch to using only free range eggs in all your foods.Act now and make a difference, you will be suprised how many poeple will take notice. |
What a disgrace |
I am shocked by this as I thought Woolworths was trying to make a difference but behind closed doors you are cutting corners on costs and the lives of chicken to save a little bit of money. This has changed my view of Woolworths, I always thought Woolworths was a cut above the rest but not anymore. |
Please stop the cruel practice of battery laying, I would like to see only free range eggs in your stores. thank you dave cannon |
I oppose the treatment of battery chickens! |
It is about time to change! Customers are more aware of food safety and where their food comes from. Please stop using battery hens' eggs in your products. |
Cannot buy your products until you start using (genuine) free range eggs |
I agree with all the comments against battery chickens. I am a farmer and started growing chickens for meat and eggs on UK standards. I give every chicken at least 10m2 of roaming space outside! If you want to do something, please just do it right!!! |
Shame on you! |
Shabby, shabby behaviour on the part of Woolworths. |
I feel hugely uncomfortable shopping at Woolworths knowing that you are supporting battery chicken farmers. Whenever I try to buy a free range grill chicken they are always out of stock but you always have plenty of battery chickens for sale. Also I do not buy your chicken pies for the same reason and buy only feta and cheese which is also only available in small amounts. |
The ideal would be to remove animal products from your products all together - for environmental, health and ethical reasons. Explore the use of vegan baking techniques, for example, and use tofu instead of egg in salads etc. In the medium-term, the very least you can do is use free-range. |
I was totally misled, I thought woolworths was an ethical store!! |
I just dont see the point of making a stand for free-range eggs, because of the cruelty aspect of battery eggs, and then use battery eggs for all your prepared foods? It smacks of compromise and double standards. We as the consumers are prepared to pay a little more to have free range eggs in your products. Pleas stand up to your promises, and don't use any battery eggs at all! EVER!!! |
Switch to free range only and make a difference. As a consumer that supports you, this matters to me. |
Please please let's be humane. How would you like to "work" locked up in a small cage for your whole life? |
I refuse to buy ANY products made with eggs from ANY woolworths store until ALL YOUR EGGS are free range - this includes ALL products made with eggs too. |
Please use free range eggs!!!!!!!!!! |
I regularly shop I regularly shop at WW food section, as I like to be a responsible consumer, preferring to by free range / organic produce. I was very shocked to hear that WW do not use the free range egg in any of their convenience foods, which I regularly bought, but will no longer do. Please WW ensure you practice what you advertise and please be a responsible consumer, so I may go back to my lazy lifestyle of convenience meals. |
It's a bit hypocritical not selling battery eggs but using them in all other products. If you're going to make a difference, make a BIG difference. |
Please keep up with the times and listen to the voice of your consumers. I will simply not purchase any Woolworths products at all until such time that an effort has been made to phase out ALL battery eggs. I do not mind carrying the extra cost - the real cost of 'cheap' eggs is borne out by the suffering of the battery hens. |
I used to be an incredibly loyal Woolworths shopper - now I will not on principle set foot in a Woolworths store. I trusted Woolworths as a principled brand and was shocked to hear about your attitude towards battery chickens. You professed to be a different kind of retailer but you have not been honest. Please, put your money where your mouth is when it comes to sustainability, ethics and principles and do not support the inhumane treatment of animals. |
: ( |
A policy of only free range - means all egg products should be free range |
Make good choices !!!! |
Practice what you preach Woolworths! Stop treating consumers like idiots. We know what is real and what is a complete "green wash" |
Stop selling eggs from chickens that are badly treated! Switch to free range eggs in all your stores. And while you're at it stop packaging everything in little plastic shrink wrap containers and pretending you give a shit about the environment. I don't shop with you anymore because of your packaging policy, pick n pay is better. |
Please Guys, make a difference! |
In Order for there to be change, action must be taken,if you have any compassion at all for what battery chickens have to go through in there short lives, please act now and use free range eggs in all your foods as well. |
Come on Woolworths, show us actions that mathes your ambitions to make money - do the right thing - YES YOU CAN! |
STOP USING TORTURED CHICKEN EGGS! I am glad I know about this now. VERY DISAPPOINTING NEWS. I will be telling ALL my friends. |
Come on guys - you are the hope of the supermarket chains and setting a precedent as the forerunners of the future - why not go all the way ?!! |
The battery egg industry is just about the cruelest industry in all of the world. These hens lead such unnatural lives that they can be described only as living in Hell. Not only that, the male chicks get killed before they have even had a chance to live a full life. From a health point of view, battery eggs have hardly any nutritional value as compared with free-range eggs! It would behove South Africa to put a stop to the battery hen industry from both ethical and health perspectives and protect both animals and people. |
please please only use free range eggs in all your foods. DO NOT USE BATTERY CHICKENS |
Chickens have an intrinsic value and can feel pain as we do. We will be loyal customers if wollies is loyal to us!!! STOP SUPPORTING BATTERY EGGS |
Please make this switch |
I was really upset to hear that your prepared food does not use free-range chickens. With all your advertising I trusted that you were committed to free-range on all fronts |
Please stop using battery chickens in your prepared food |
It is sick that a company like Woolworths belive they have the right to hoodwink the public, sorry Wollies no more goodies in my trolley. Pick up your game!!!!! |
Firstly, I appreciate Woolworths' stance with regard to 'cruel food' and your commitment towards 'kind food'. However, I am bitterly disappointed that you continue to use eggs from battery hen in your baking prodacts. That seems to be blatendly hypocritical. If you want to continue counting on my support, you would have to show me that "your money is where your mouth is". Marius de Waal |
Stop your use of battery eggs. Period. In addition, be aware the consumers are getting much more aware of your often disengenuous methods of putting strange things into your feed - for example your use of animal rennet in your kids mac 'n cheese - which is supposed to be vegetarian! |
I think it is shocking that chickens are treated in this manner. It is unacceptable to continue to use any eggs that are not free-range, in any way. We should all do our part to stop the abuse of animals. I am certainly prepared to pay more for items that contain only free-range eggs. In fact from now on I will not buy any product at WOOLworth that says 'eggs' on the label but not 'free-range' or 'organic eggs'. |
free as a bird...come on WW do your bit!! |
Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way. Martin Luther King Jr |
We shop at Woolworths BECAUSE we don't mind paying a bit more to prevent animals suffering!!!! GO ALL THE WAY!!! |
Please put an END to supporting this horrific practice of buying eggs from battery hens to use in your products. As the saying go "you are what you eat." Is it healthy for us to be eating eggs coming from tortured animals? Kindly stop supporting this industry. |
I am a very regular customer - please sort this out! |
Please use free range eggs in all products!!! |
hi Woolworths, we will not be buying baked goods that contain egg from you until they contain free range eggs only! We are starting to doubt your credibility with Woolworths claims of free range and organic in other food stuffs. We need an all or nothing approach in order to institute real change. |
I only buy free range products and have enqired before at Woolworths. I don't mind paying a bit extra for the organic free range options available and would love to see more! |
Dear Woolies, I have been a proud supporter of the Woolworths brand for a long period of time now. However, I find it very hypocritical that you would make such an issue of ethical foods and still use battery-caged eggs in your ready-made foods. I hold Woolworth dear to heart because that's where I go for everything I need as I feel rest assured of where it came from and how it was made. But I will be forced to walk away from Woolies if the use of battery eggs continue and the thought disappoints me to no end. I am not the first person to write a letter of this kind to you, so I'm sure you should get the message by now. I will be staying optimistic in this issue, so I expect a change in the near future because I just know you'll do the right thing!! Regards, Michelle Otten |
Please terat all animals humanely and respect their right to be able to move around freely. |
Chicken are sentient beings and should be treated as such. What if it were you? STOP PURCHASING AND SELLING BATTERY EGGS! |
I do not like to think that the integrity of your add campeign is manufactured. This makes me more suspicious of Woolworths than I am of retailers who don't 'greenwash' |
you are so close yet not quite there Woolworths. Please stop using battery produced eggs in your products! |
Do you truly have the courage of your convictions, or is it only an advertising ploy? |
I have put my money where my mouth is and make new choices EVERYDAY to protect the rights of animals. If Woolworths are not prepared to do the same I will no longer support them. As much as I hate Pick n Pay I will take my monthly R6500 food shop to their stores. It disgusts me that Woolworths think they have the right to continue the cycle of abusive farming practices and then to make the claim and generalise that this is what the broader public wants. How dare they? Their arrogance infuriates me. |
I noticed that Woolworths are using free-range eggs in some of their "kiddies meals"; when I asked the manager of one of the stores why they were not being used in all their products he said they intended to but it was a matter of cost etc. Come on Woolworths, many people have supported you because of your stand in other areas - please don't continue to fool us into thinking all your hens sre "Free as a Bird" when they are anything but...And is there such a thing as truth in advertising any more?? |
Dear Woolworths, Your brand holds such prestige and nation wide acceptance on quality, freshness and eco-friendliness. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE follow this trend with your farming techniques and the suppliers you use. Let's compare battery laying hens to human workers. In currect trends humans seek freedom of choice and space to choose and select the things they find important. A happy worker is not a satisfied worker as we seek things far beyond what money can provide. Now we compare this to chickens: If a hen is healthy and happy, free and in the open are they not more inclined to produce twice the amount of eggs twice the size as they have the freedom and choice to be chickens. They may not be human but it requires us as higher intellectual beings to understand the need of those beings below us. Whether religious or not God made animals first and put man on earth to name them and to care for them!!! Please let us sensistize ourselves to the understanding of animals as they are at the mercy of us big bad nasty humans! It is our waste that destroys the land, seas and air. Let us be more humane in our approaches! Imagine vampires existed and harvested us in cages for our blood to feed their thirst??? CAn we not compare this to our hunger for food and the chickens at our mercy?? PLEASE PLEASE let us care for them and protect them to the best of our ability. Better and happpier hens=better quality and quantity of eggs=greater profits! And isn't that always the bottom line of every business? You wouldn't place your employees in cages to pack shelves and attend to customer needs to show ownership of them? Would they be happier and productive??? The same rules apply!!! We are not excluded from the laws as we must remember we didn't create them in the first place. |
Woolies you were doing so well... why not take it one step further |
Dear Woolworths As a regular customer I have always enjoyed boasting to friends and animal lovers alike about your excellent commitment to stocking organic, cruelty-free products. However I was dismayed and shamed to find out that you still insist on using battery eggs in your food products. Being a Woolworths customer I have never cared for the cost, and so there is no reason for you to hesitate. Thus please continue with your excellence by cutting out the usage of battery eggs completely. |
Please stop being part of the suffering of battery hens! |
I am disappointed that my favourite store uses battery eggs....please STOP doing it!! |
As a vegetarian I have always bought Woolworths products because of their humane farming policy. I am greatly disappointed that double standards have been adhered to all along. All ingredients chosen for ready-made food should adhere to the code of ethics. |
i wont buy battery eggs or products that contain them. as the top-end of food chain stores, woolworths should be leading the way with this issue. experience in other countries shows its a popular, as well as an ethical move for retailers to make. |
If this is how Woolworths act when it pretends to be ethical and eco-friendly then I will not trust any of their other claims either and spend my money somewhere else... |
Be the leader you know you are. |
I thought we are supposed to be the species with higher intelligence, come on Woolworths put your money where your mouth is and free those chickens. Its barbaric. |
Woolworths should also change all their readymade meals to having vegetarian cheese (no animal rennet)as what is the point of selling all dairy this way, but still using animal rennet in things like vegetable ravioli etc which those of us who don't eat meat would like to purchase? I always buy pick n pay ready made meals instead because they use non-animal rennet!!! |
Please Woolworths, lead the way in which we need to go regarding the use of battery chickens in your prepared meals/ food products. I will NOT be buying any of these goods until you are only using free range eggs in all your products. I will also be passing this message onto my family and friend urging them to do the same. |
Make this happen! We have 20 free range chickens on our small holding and it's not that hard! |
If you could please realize that there is sufficient abuse accuring on battery egg farms. I would pay R2 more for a muffin at woolworths if I now the eggs used in it is free range and not grained fed. This really is a serious matter, if we don't start somewhere these farms will continue with the abuse. Kind Regards, Audrey |
Not only is it cruelty to animals it is also toxic for the body to eat these abused chickens. Please only use free range. All my friends will be happy to pay the extra fee for health reasons and compassion for these poor chickens!! |
We should do away with non free range products |
I will only buy products that I know contain free range eggs |
Please use free range eggs |
I think it is a terribly hypocritical of Woolworths to claim that they only sell free-range eggs, and yet sell products that contain battery eggs! Stop cheating the public! |
I regularly eat Woolworths already prepared meals but I'm not going to purphase another meal until I know that Woolworths have completely stopped using battery eggs. Come on Woolworths. |
It is disappointing that Woolworths, holding itself out to be a responsible corporate citizen, continues to use battery chicken eggs in their prepared foods. I will no longer be supporting Woolworths food. |
we do not appreciate false advertising and animal cruelty |
stop selling Battery Eggs |
I shop religiously at Woolies and trust that they supply ethically farmed goods of the highest quality. However I refuse to shop at Woolworths any longer until they wake up and ban battery chickens/eggs. Woolies customers are likely to pay a premium to know their goods are farmed humanely......Food for thought. |
I've been aware of the situation for quite some time, glad someone is taking organised action against it! |
Make up your Mind Woollies: do you support free range or not? There are no grey areas and there can not be such blatant contradiction in your policies! |
Thank you for all your green initiatives. I am very grateful and will continue to support Woolworths because of it. Please use free-range eggs in all your meals. It would mean that I could enjoy more of the great food Woolworths has to offer. (Wouldn't mind more Vegan options!!) Thanks |
Stop this cruelty now!!!! |
I am so totally shocked and dissapointed in Woolworths...I had, to date, been "bragging" to everyone I know that Woolworths have taken the lead in the fight against cruelty to animals. Especially as they stand at the fore front and so are really the public eye - informing us of their dedication to supporting only free range products and farming...I so hoped they would be the example to all other chain stores as to how to move forward regarding not supporting cruelty to animals....I am really saddened..... |
woolies our favorite store has done wonders please please do more |
I am grateful that you have advertised that you only sell freerange eggs. What I would like to ask is why promote free range eggs etc when your produce is still using battery. For a better understanding for those of us who abhor the cruelty with the animal suffering please tell us why you wont change and how we can assist in helping you as Woolworths change your minds. Please not the standard letter we are looking into this or it is being dealt with. This is about a win/win situation. Animal cruelty is increasing and with it the attitude of people who think this is the norm because the work and see it in the system. Please Woolworth Management assist in helping to stop the cruelty and increase the care that we all not only the animals but people need by making the right choices. Awaiting your reply. Lee Vestey |
Do Any of you have children or grandchildren what legacy would you like to leave them? ? ? ? ? |
Please be more consistent! |
I am very dissapointed with this state of affairs. Even though I am not well-off, I pay a bit more for my groceries by buying from Woolworths, because I always thought you were the only retailer respecting the rights of animals. |
I love Woolies and i am a firm supporter ofyour brand and products. I am certain that even if it means a small price increase, the right thing will be done and this will be a mere learning curve! free range for change!! |
I think you need to communicate clearly about what is free-range and what is not. That would be a fairer option for all of us. |
What ever number of Woolworths customers don't care about battery farming - double that number do! Woolworths has always been progressive, right out there in the front with good, healthy, safe foods and farming methods. Keep it that way Woolies - don't support battery farming. Please! It's important to your customers. |
Please do not support the terrible conditions that exist for battery hens. Try to make the world a better place, you would win more support from concerned customers. |
you liars you you greedy little piggys |
Stop using battery eggs!!! |
You can make a difference by forcing "farmers" to stop this unethical practice. |
Thank you for trying to make a difference |
disgusted! |
Its not fair to the animals the should be able to roam freely! |
It is most disheartening that Woolworths have not gone the completely free range route with all their products containing eggs but led the public to believe they were buying completeley free range merchandise. "Free as a bird" my foot! |
Woolies - a name synonymous with quality, value and (until now) ethics. Are you prepared to loose your reputation for a few cents more by using eggs from caged birds to remain 'cometitive'? |
I've always considered Woolworths as a company superior to other food-suppliers in the sense of quality and ethical business. When I found out about the battery eggs in your products I was and still am very disappointed. Why make so much effort to support the idea of free range, but not wholly follow through? It feels as if Woolworths thought it could dupe the consumer into believing the 'ethical' branding which you have created for yourselves. Note 'ethical' in brackets, as I will now doubt every single thing that WW tells me. I also think it was easy to get away with battery eggs in mixed products such as cakes etc, beacause most consumers trust WW without question, and won't think further to ask if the eggs in the products are free range- as you have created a very strong image of ethical business, and it was assumed by me and many other consumers that WW would live up to it. It seems now that it is not so. After this, and the gelatine in the yoghurts I am losing more and more confidence in WW and will not shop with you as often as I have. There is no way for me to 'check up' on your ethicalness, and after being duped a few times, I think its time to move on to farmers markets where I can make a more informed decision about my food. Yours Sincerely Esti Strydom |
Please move to using free range eggs in all your food production. Regards, Jemimah Birch |
Please switch to using only free range eggs in all your foods!!!!!!!! |
As a committed Woolworths customer, I strongly urge you to end any use of products using battery produced eggs. I shall certainly not purchase any further products containing battery eggs. Further, I would request that you extend this philosophy to your chicken products, so that they only contain free range birds. I currently do not buy any chicken products at woolworths, other than the free range chicken pieces and would love to purchase more of your products. I commend the work that you have done so far, but it does not go far enough. We need to put an end to the inhumane treatment of animals as a matter of urgency. You may not get many direct requests from our relatively apathetic public, but there is huge public support for compassionate food products, and your clients will certainly support you if you support us in making this change. |
I am a loyal customer thanks to your efforts to go above and beyond in offering quality foods to your customers. I do however warn you that this is the second bit of misleading advertising I have endured from you the first being your "Non Genetically Modified" campaign. This has compromised my trust in you and has done far more damage than good to our relationship. What else are you untruthful about? PnP does not treat me like an idiot and is also putting in big effort. Need I say more! |
I have always supported Woolworths because I thought they cared about the environment and humane treatment for animals. However, I will no longer buy from Woolworths unless ALL their products are free-range. I am also extremely disappointed that Woolworths actually lied about this issue. |
Surely, you must understand that this is a disgusting and unacceptable practice? I really expect better morality from Woolworths. Until then, no more purchases! |
I'm incredibly disappointed that Woolworths can mislead us so badly. With how many other products have they been less than forthcoming with the truth. I only buy from Woolworths. Perhaps I need to rethink this?? |
Get rid of battery eggs. |
Its outrages that this happens, Why does Woolworths supports such horrible practices? |
Please stop stocking battery eggs. Prevent animal cruelty. |
Please switch to using only free range eggs in all your food |
Please only use Free range eggs in all your food stuff. It is really very disapointing to find out that you use Battery eggs, I will definately not buy anything from you again. |
This must stop |
Please can we make a concerted effort to ensure the food that lands on our table ahs not come about through cruelty of any kind. |
in my opinion woolworths is very helpful and efficient. But there is a major concern when it comes to eggs that are not free range. please consider this. |
I think its only fair not to give customers the choice to buy non free range eggs! |
Spare a thought for animal rights |
It is a shame to treat animals who give their life to feet us so badly!!! And we call ourself "Human!!!!! How can those people look at themselves every morning? |
I have been trying to get photographs of WW free range farm from them for about 2 months. Have been made promises but nothing has materialised as yet. Sees to me that WW has a lot to hide!!!Havent been buying their chicken or eggs for last 2 months and neither has my friends. |
Please stop using battery eggs in any of your products. Be a leader! |
The internet publicity surrounding Woolworths and battery eggs is not doing Woolworths' image as a responsible retailer any good. The power of the internet is immense. The more retailers stop supporting the battery hen farmers, the quicker they will go out of business. Is it really that difficult or costly to make this change & would others not follow if a big retail name like Woolworths do the ethical thing? |
Battery eggs are an incredibly cruel product that require unspeakable suffering of birds for the sake of money. Help stop this barbaric "farming" practice. |
As a self declared "green" food and merchandise retailer the environmentally concious consumer paying more at the Woolworths outlets is entrusting the company to uphold its environmentally friendly policies. |
At the very least we would appreciate if you could label your produce with: free range eggs used, or so! So we can make an informed choice! |
I will not be buying any cakes, pies, quiches etc until such time that I can be assured that only free range eggs from a reliable source are being used. |
It is such a pity that greed drives the market place!! |
ENGAGE IN SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL - YOUR BOTTOM LINE WILL ONLY INCREASE WITH MORE CONSIDERATE PRACTICES. |
Come on Woolworths, you are an innovative company and you have to get this one right |
What a pitty Woolworths puts money first and ethics last. |
Help us to support u. use only free range eggs. its so easy |
Dear Woolworths, This is not the first time that it came to my attention that your ethics are not in place andthat you portray a dishonest image to the public. You show total disrespect by treating your customers as ignorent. Please start living your values and put your money where your mouth is. Stop making use of battery eggs. For action please. Thank you Amanda Calinikos |
It is just plain cruel.. |
I am a proud South African and it shames me when one of our biggest retailers are so ignorant and heartless. |
Please don't tell me that I have to stop shopping at Woolies because you are not being honest. |
Organic and free range is the way forward!!!! |
Please don't hurt the chickens. Woolworths is such an upmarket store, I find it surprising that anything other than free range is considered in your outlet. |
I would like to know that all food is prepared with free range eggs, and all pre- prepared chicken e.g crumbed chicken breasts is made with free range chickens. this is still a big gap! Thank you |
The EU has committed to banning battery cages from 2012. Woolworths should commit itself to, as their advertising says, only to free range in all products. |
You want to be recognised as Environmentally and Animal friendly, go the whole way, do NOT bypass or cut corners ... Stop using battery eggs in your food products immediately |
Please do the best you can by increasing your range of free range eggs and ultimately phasing out battery laid eggs all togheter. To hear about the suffering of these innocent creatures is deeply troubling. |
FREE RANGE ONLY IN ALL FOOD PRODUCTS PLEASE!! |
The big deal is that Woolworths claims to care about the environment and the well-being of their customers. Time to act on the claims! |
FREE AS A BIRD? What's the point if you use battery eggs in all your prepared products? PLEASE BE TRUE TO YOUR WORD. I will only buy your products once you use free range eggs to prepare them. |
Please look out for our precious animals! It is not fair!!! |
Come on guys! I was shocked to hear you actually use battery chicken eggs in your dishes. Get it right, or lose me as a customer! |
You have to be sick not to be repulsed by the concept of factory farming - for any animal! Hooray to the activists for actually doing something about it. |
Woolies suck because they maKE US BELIEVE THAT THEY USE FREE RENGE EGGS. |
I am strongly opposed to battery chicken farming! I appeal to Woolworths to source only free range chicken products. |
I find it unacceptable that Woolworths misleads the public by creating the impression that they sell only free range eggs, when in fact, their prepared foods are made with eggs from battery chickens. In future, I will think twice before believing Woolworths guarantees of humanely produced foods! |
How disappointing =o(( |
I am extremely disappointed that WW do not use free range eggs in their dishes. What is the purpose then to sell free range eggs? I am not buying any prepared dishes until I am assured that free range eggs are also used in the WW dishes. |
I only buy from Woolies as they claim to be cruelty free!! This is news to me, and I wont support Woolies anymore until they change their ways |
As a vegan I FULLY support this initiative. BAN BATTERY EGGS!! |
I BELIEVE IT'S CRUEL TO EXPOSE ANY ANIMAL TO SUCH CRUELTY, ALL ANIMALS SHOULD BE ENTITLED TO WONDER AROUND FREELY AND BE TREATED HUMANELY |
Do the right thing, Woolworths. Do what you promised to do and act responsibly. |
My family and I have been loyal WW customers for more than 43 years. We love the quality of WW but this is not acceptable, in fact it is very misleading |
We won't eat battery eggs any longer. I can't believe someone whom I support on a daily basis would still be operating with battery hens. Stop it or I and all my friends and family will stop shopping at woolies. |
Please, this brutality simply HAS to stop. Please supply us with AUTHENTIC, free range organic eggs, and stop supporting battery farms! |
Give consumers what they are demanding - free range poultry products across the board. |
I think that it is shocking to treat living beings in such a vulgar way.It must be stopped even if they're meat and eggs are part of our meals. It does not give anyone the right to abuse them :( |
the market dominating corps must fall! |
I would also like to know whether chickens which are slaughtered for consupmtion are also free range. |
Dear Woolworths, it is a great pity that a store that has worked so hard to establish its image should throw it away in such a cheap demeaning way, what were you thinking? that your customers are all mindless idiots? changeing stores!!!! |
I am really disappointed to hear that Woolworths uses battery eggs in their products! Customers pay a lot of money for quality and above average products. Is the extra expense of Woolworths products then not worth it?? |
I want free range eggs in all Woolies products. |
Battery egg is abhorrent! Battery chickens should be banned by law! |
Woolworths must not have double standards. They say that they are green people yet they support the cruelty of animals. Hmmm?!! |
It is dispicable that you still condone and make use of this process. Shame on you!!!! |
The consumer is becoming more concious. Its all about energy - consume or benefit from energy that has gone through pain and you shall go through pain. |
Woolworths : Masters in the Black Arts of Greenwashing |
Woolworths has taken a leading step toward the goal of a cruelty free farming when committing to free range eggs. I urge woolworths to continue with vigour on its path toward being a store that only offers its clients products that are ethical in every way. Each step is an example to all other chain stores and the public of compassionate business practice. |
I commit to absolutely not buying or consuming your battery farmed products till you make the ethical choice and change. Do the right thing! Now. |
All eggs should be produced in an ethical, humane manner. Please do not support battery farming in any way! |
Stop pulling the Woolies over our eyes! We will not support you otherwise!!! |
Battery eggs are produced by hens who live in cramped, caged conditions with a space allowance each of 75% of an A4 sheet of paper. Their beaks are always seared off and they do not have access to sunlight or the ability to exercise any of their basic behavioural needs such as laying an egg in a nest, dust-bathing, sun-bathing, foraging and scratching for food. After a year, the rate at which they lay eggs drops from one egg every 25 hours to one every 34 hours. They are no longer considered “economically viable” and are sent to cull farms where hawkers buy them for slaughter in informal settlements. Please join me in this petition which aims at ending the cruel and unnecessary practice of battery farming in South Africa. |
Some how I'm not surprised, anything to mark the price up and make a sale. |
Come on!!! - Practice what you preach! |
Please do all yu can to make life easier for animals. |
How long will it take for Woolworths to realise that cruelty in any form is unacceptable to a huge % of their consumers particularly as it is the simplest change to make. |
